Countdown to Summer: Best Places to Go to Get Away from the Summer Heat

With summer closing in with its hot and humid, sometimes dry, air, anyone would be wanting to get away from the summer heat to relieve themselves in cool air, cool waters, and cool places, all in order to relax, enjoy, and rest. In the search for your next summer destination, it’s almost certain that you’ll come across the famous and world-renowned destinations in the Philippines that offer that experience you’re looking for. May it be bask under the sun, relaxing and drinking hot cocoa drinks amidst pine trees dancing to the movement of the cool wind, or simply a place to enjoy your time with your loved ones, the Philippines has it all.

Here are the best summer destinations in the Philippines to get away from the summer heat:

Boracay

Anyone who hears the name of this place would never fail to think of white sand beaches, beautiful sceneries, crystal clear azure waters, and a gorgeous sunset to wrap the day, or to start it, given that Boracay remains alive even at nighttime.

As one of the best islands in the world, Boracay has always been one of the key destinations for travelers looking to spend their vacations by beating the heat in cool waters. This island is jam packed with adventures, activities, and amenities for everyone, from child, to adult, to even seniors. From the White Beach lined with palm trees at its west coast to the winds and water sports of Bulabog Beach, this small island in Visayas offers an incredible summer time for all.

El Nido

As the gateway to the archipelago of Bacuit, a group of islands with steep cliffs, this municipality in the island of Palawan is widely-known for its beaches adorned with white sand and coral reefs. Its islands are also home to multiple attractions that get tourists excited to experience the beauty of the place that nature has carved throughout time.

The island of Miniloc with its lagoons varying in sizes from small to big are famous for their clear waters, while Shimizu island is home to fishes of all kinds and species. El Nido also has numerous diving sites for divers looking to dive into its deepest points, such as the island of Dilumacad that has a long stretching tunnel that eventually leads them to an underwater cavern, giving divers a sort of moment of discovery and wonder.

Tagaytay

If it’s getting hot, then naturally people would want to head where the air is cool and comfortable. But beyond just that, people would want to spend their time in a place that offers them more than just cold air, but experiences, places, and adventures that they normally can’t get in the hustle and bustle of city life.

Tagaytay is that place. As the usual holiday town located south of Manila, the city is one of the best places to be if you’re looking to view the Taal Volcano and its island from above, which is surrounded by a lake with the same name. And of course, a trip to Tagaytay is never complete if you don’t get to eat Bulalo or any of their local dishes that offer a gastronomic experience for anyone. Have a taste of their cuisine and you’d find yourself looking for more.

La Union

Now, off to another province in Luzon, the beautiful La Union is situated in the region of Ilocos, with its capital being the city of San Fernando which also happens to be the regional center of the said region. This place, if you’ve gone surfing even just once in your life, has probably been mentioned to you as one of the best surfing spots in the country. The coastal town is known for its beaches and waves that attract surfers and tourists alike.

But that’s not all La Union has to offer. The picturesque province is also home to numerous natural waterfalls perfect for picture-taking, swimming, and other leisure activities. To name a few, the waterfalls of La Union are Tuddingan Falls, Tangadan Falls, Simminublan Falls, and Balay Anito Falls, which travelers always put on their itineraries once they step into the province.

Apart from those water-related activities, the province also brims with culture and heritage as the province is basically a melting pot of cultures from Pangasinan, Ilocos, and Cordillera. This then contributes to all the activities and adventures any tourist can experience, from red clay pottery, loom weaving, eco-tours, to grape picking.

Puerto Princesa

If it’s a memorable summer vacation you’re looking for, then the coastal city Puerto Princesa is sure to be the first destination to come to mind. This city, located in Palawan island in the western parts of the Philippines, is home to limestone caves and underground rivers, to which locals would hold boat trips for tourists who desire to see the beauty of all these hidden gems their locality has to offer.

The beauty of this place is undeniable given that on November 11 of 2011, the Puerto Princesa Underground River was chosen provisionally to be counted as one among the seven “New 7 Wonders of Nature.” And come January 28, 2012, the river was officially confirmed to be part of the list. In addition, the underground river has also been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, adding further to the worldwide appeal of Puerto Princesa to not just the Filipinos, but also to the rest of the world.

Apart from this, there are also multiple dive sites for divers looking to sink into the waters of Puerto Princesa to take sight of long-nosed dolphins, rays, and turtles that wander around this gift of nature. This paradise, as the center and capital city of the Province of Palawan, is every nature lover’s dream destination. With most services becoming more and more centered around this area, travelers are guaranteed a safe and comfortable stay along with, of course, an incredibly fun experience that’s memorable and would last for a lifetime.
